Earlier this month, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro models were made official. The lineup includes a cheaper phone that is dubbed by the rumor mill has OnePlus Z. It is speculated to debut in July. Today, a publication shared a hands-on shot of the OnePlus Z smartphone to reveal its front design.
The publication claims that it received the OnePlus Z leaked shot from the same source that it had provided it with hands-on shots of OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro. Still, it has advised readers to digest the leak with a pinch of salt.
The live shot of the OnePlus Z shows that is fitted with a flat screen. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have curved screens with a punch-hole placed at the upper-left corner. The OnePlus Z hands-on image reveals that it will be the first OnePlus phone to feature a top-center positioned punch-hole on the display. The image also reveals that the device has an AMOLED display that is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint reader.
OnePlus Z specifications (Rumored)
All the OnePlus phones that have launched so far have featured Snapdragon chipsets. However, the OnePlus Z could be the first OnePlus smartphone to come with a Snapdragon SoC. It could be powered by Dimensity 1000Lv chipset from MediaTek. The device is expected to feature a 6.4-inch Optic AMOLED display that supports full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.
The OnePlus Z may house a 4,000mAh battery. The OxygenOS based Android 10 OS will come preinstalled on the phone. It may come with a front camera of 16-megapxiel. The rear side of the phone may sport a 48-megapixel + 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera setup.
The OnePlus Z may arrive in 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage editions. The handset may arrive with a starting price of 400 GBP (~$500).
Previous leaks also suggested that OnePlus Z could be the first non-Snapdragon device from the company. OnePlus Z is speculated to arrive with MediaTek Dimensity 1000L SoC with 5G support out of the box. The device will be made available with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage to choose from. Although the image above doesn’t reveal the back of the device, the previous renders and live images showed a triple rear camera arrangement with the 2020-styled rectangular array.
On the verge of July launch, it remains to be seen how will this affect the OnePlus 8 ‘T’ series that consistently happens in the second half of the year. In a way, OnePlus’ approach is somewhat similar to what Apple has done with its latest iPhone SE. Some of the speculations also suggest that the device could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 which features an integrated 5G modem just like the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L.
As for the specifications, OnePlus Z expected to feature a 6.4-inch Optic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The display refresh rate here is 90 Hz and comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The display will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Underneath the hood, as mentioned earlier, the device is expected to come with MediaTek Dimensity 1000L SoC coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storages to choose from.
For optic duties, the device is expected to launch with the triple rear camera setup with 48 MP + 16 MP + 12 MP camera. The device runs Android 10 with Oxygen OS skin on top and will be powered by a 4000 mAh battery. If OnePlus could manage to fit all this around 30,000 INR, this device could be the flagship killer of the year.
